Our scholarship recipients have been announced!

Scholarship Recipients

This year, once again with gratitude to faithful stewardship of Richard and Sally Kuhn and Edward J. Kuhn, and with honoring the memory or Margaret Luther and Virginia Selle, and the memory of Donald Loomis, nine scholarships recipients from Central Church have been given encouragement and support for their continuing journey into vocations and learning. The Kuhn, Selle and Luther Scholarships are for $1000 for the academic year. the Loomis Scholarship for Trade School and Vocational Training programs is a $400 scholarship.


Richard and Sally Kuhn Scholarship for a Graduating High School Senior

Adam Sutherland Adam is a 2009 graduate of Mott High School and will matriculate at Grand Valley State University in the fall anticipating a major in Film and Video. Adam has been active in theater and music in High School, served as president of the MHS Drama Club and as founder and president of the MHS Optimist Club "Motivate". He is one of the Waterford Foundation Select 50, received the Outstanding Leadership and Community Service Award and Special Recognition in Science. Adam has been an active member of the UMY and the Youth Choir here at Central.


Edward J. Kuhn Scholarship for a Graduating High School Senior

Amanda Waltz Amanda is a 2009 graduate of Mott High School and plans on attending Central Michigan University in the fall with an anticipated major in writing. Mandy has ben active in high school with Yearbook, and as a percussionist most recently with the Symphonic Band and rock and jazz bands. She has also served as president of the Film Club. All of this has been done while compiling an active work resume. She has been involved in the UMY and the 30 Hour Famine, and has been participating integrally in the Women's Youth Wednesday Thing, a life exploration led by Rev. Wendy Lyons Chrostek.


Virginia Selle Scholarship for a Graduating High School Senior

Angelique Robson Angelique is a 2009 graduate of Kettering High School and will attend the International Academy of Design and Technology anticipating a major in Digital Media and a vocation as an animator. Angelique has been active in art through out high school, dual enrolling at Kendall College for a course in color theory and perspective, participating in the Michigan Youth Art Fair, and is a member of the National Art Honors Society. At Central Church her art expression has also been utilized as a member of the Tribe of Daniel visual worship display team, Liturgical Dance, Hand Bell choirs and occasional piano duets with her father.


Margaret Luther Scholarship for a Graduating High School Senior

Angela ArnoldAngela is a 2009 graduate of Mott High School and will begin college in the fall at Central Michigan University anticipating a major in music education. Angela has been the Drum Major for the marching band for three years and received numerous awards at varying band camps. She is a National Honor Society member as well as a member of the Phi Beta Kappa, Band Council president, Pep Band founder. Angela also is the Spirit of Mott award winner. At Central she has been active in UMY, Youth Choir, Dance Choirs, Bell Choirs, Acolyte, Liturgist, Child Care provider, and VBS Volunteer.


Richard and Sally Kuhn Scholarship for a Continuing College Student

William ArmstrongWilliam is entering his Junior year at Albion College majoring in Biology and Political Science with an eye toward working on environmental policy issues. He has been on the Deans List, and a participant in the Sleight Servant Leadership Summer Conference and Training. He participates in the Susatainability Council, Ford institute of Public Service, Institute of Environmental Studies, Student Senate, Power to Vote Campaign, and the Michigan Student Sustainability Coalition. When not attending Central Church when home from college, William participates in Campus Crusade for Christ, The Wesley Foundation, Interfaith Spiritual Bridge and attends the local Albion United Methodist Church. He has also been the student initiator and leader of a study of Adam Hamilton's "Confronting The Controversies."


Richard and Sally Kuhn Scholarship for a Continuing College Student

Megan Gay Megan is entering her senior year at Grand Valley State University majoring in Legal Studies with a minor in Dance. Megan is focused on her academics and continues to be on the Dean's List. She has shared in some of the Young Adult conversations with Rev. Wendy Lyons Chrostek when she has been home from school and participated in the mission project to prepare sandwiches at Cass Community. She writes "The members of Central Church have come to seem like extended family. They support and care for each other. I Try and do this in my everyday life and with everyone I meet." Megan was highly involved in the youth and worship arts program at Central from childhood through high school and has occasionally filled in with the YTBN bells when she has been home.


Virginia Selle Scholarship for a Conitnuing College Student

Andrea NowakAndrea is attending Oakland University, will be in a junior this coming year majoring in Pre-Med and hopes to pursue a career as an Oncologist or a Resident Physician. Andrea has been on the Dean's List. She continues to be active in the worship arts of Central Church while both working and attending school. She is a member of the Chancel Choir, YTBN Bells, and a member of the highly acclaimed SA2MBE ringers who lead worship and inspired all at the Detroit Annual Conference. She writes "growing up in the Central environment has given me deep roots for my faith to grow and helped me shape the values and principles to center my life around. The fellowship and community of CUMC have always given me a sense of belonging."


Margaret Luther Scholarship for a Continuing College Student

Pam Coleman-GayPam is attending Madonna University majoring in Social Work. She anticipates being a foster care social worker. She already has her Associates Degree from OCC. Pam is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa and continues to be on the Dean's List and is eligible to become a member of the Social Works Honors Society. Her activity at Central Church has been long and engaging, weaving through Sunday school, UMY, UMW, music ministries, Stephen's Ministries and lay reading. Most recently she has been an active participant in the Worship Design Team, guided the Nurturing Ministries as a Ministry Coordinator, and worked with the Good Samaritan screening process with Rev. Wendy Lyons Chrostek.


Don Loomis Trade School Scholarship

Joshua LewisJosh is a 2008 Graduate of Mott High School and enrolled in the Oakland Community College, Fire Academy with the intent of entering the firefighting field. Josh has previously been involved in the Waterford Fire Cadet Program. He has mother and grandmother with our seasonal decorating and been a product of our Sunday school program and assisted his mother in teaching Sunday school in the past. Josh is first applicant for the Don Loomis Trade School Scholarship, a $400 scholarship that extends the church's passion for learning to skilled trade and other sorts of vocational training. The scholarship has been established by the family of Don Loomis, who invite others to contribute to the fund under the name Central Church Trade School Scholarship.
